WCUP SPORT NUTIRTION

WCUP Sports Nutrition is a Belgian brand of scientifically formulated sports nutrition products to be used both before, during and after training or competition.
Since its launch in 1994, WCUP has become an established fixture for both national and international athletes of various levels.

Their mission

Our mission has remained unchanged since our foundation: to develop products that make a difference and are adapted to the athlete's basic nutritional needs in terms of preparation, performance and recovery, with the ultimate goal of improving sports performance.

We also give athletes the guarantee that all WCUP products are free of banned substances and can be used without any risk of positive doping tests.

In the beginning...

The basic idea for the first WCUP product lies in a common problem in athletes - muscle acidification.
When you do strenuous exercise, the body produces a lot of lactic acid. The accumulation of this in muscle tissues is the cause of muscle acidification. Our body has its own deacidification system, but this takes about 72 hours. Athletes usually do not have that much patience. Insufficient rest also leads to chronic acidification, which makes you more prone to muscle injuries, fatigue, slower recovery and reduced performance.

WCUP Sports drink was developed paying extra attention to acidity. Most sports drinks contain citric acid to extend shelf life and improve taste. However, with the science around muscle acidification, it does not make sense for athletes to drink acidic drinks during and after exercise. Those extra acids put extra strain on the body's deacidification system. Moreover, most athletes experience stomach pain as a result. WCUP sports drink has neutral acidity (pH=7.2). It also contains extra substances to neutralise the acids present, making it very well tolerated under exertion.

José De Cauwer had first taken the drink to the Tour In France in 1994. Reactions were very positive: the heavy feeling was indeed out of the legs, but it was barely drinkable. We have since worked hard on the taste.WCUP subsequently experienced tremendous growth and range expansion. Currently, our range consists of thirst quenchers, energy bars, energy gels, recovery drinks, proteins and nutritional supplements.

In May 2017, the Veldeman brothers WCUP Sports Nutrition acquired and revitalised the brand. As passionate triathletes, they set great store by a healthy mind in a healthy body. The takeover allowed them, as managers of the Veldeman painting and contracting company in Dendermonde, to link their entrepreneurial spirit more closely to their passion : sport !

The registered office of WCUP Sports Nutrition is located in the Bosveld in Dendermonde.

KARCHER

As we had been using Karcher pressure washers ourselves for more than 10 years, it was high time to enter into an official partnership and thus also shift up a gear. From 2023, we will only use Karcher's professional segment and will be able to professionalise our well-known wash zone at RDM even more.

THRIVE

Beer that's really good for you. Scientifically proven!

Thrive Recovery IPA is a functional beer that promotes your physical recovery after exercise.
This functionality is what makes Thrive truly unique and is achieved through an optimal mix of proteins, carbohydrates and, of course, the omission of alcohol.

Developed by scientists.
We developed Thrive in collaboration with the Leuven Institute For Beer Research (LIBR), a partnership between the University of Leuven and the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology. Based in beer country Belgium, LIBR is at the forefront of innovation in the beer sector. As such, it was the ideal partner to help develop our patented sport recovery beer.

Thrive is brewed with the same natural ingredients as any other beer. All we do is add protein for muscle recovery and use a special yeast to avoid the alcohol.

How it came about....
The story of Thrive begins with a group of friends who had set themselves one of the greatest possible sporting challenges: a full Ironman triathlon. Geez. But Ironman says anything is possible and they were right. We all finished successfully!

During preparation, however, we had one big problem. As Belgians, we love beer and there was nothing like a cold pint after a hard workout. Unfortunately, sport and alcohol don't go well together because alcohol gets in the way of recovery. Bummer.

What we did need was good nutrition with the right combination of proteins and carbohydrates. So we ended up with chocolate-flavoured recovery shakes followed by non-alcoholic beer. Not exactly a tasty mix.

So one of us began to wonder: what if there were a beer to enjoy after exercise, with the right nutrients for your recovery? It took more than a year and a team of innovative brewers and scientists, but we succeeded. With Thrive Recovery IPA, we succeeded in creating the world's first true sports beer.

And best of all? It tastes great. But judge for yourself.
